It's Art-A-Whirl Time!

Friday, May 17, 5-10pm
Saturday, May 18, Noon-8pm
Sunday, May 19, Noon-5pm

Art-A-Whirl is the country's largest open studio tour. During the event’s three day run, the whole of Northeast Minneapolis opens its doors to the public. It’s a great opportunity to meet artists in their work spaces and purchase work directly from the creative source. Nearly all of the artists that work here open their studios, the galleries have extended hours and special shows, restaurants and bars have specials for art-viewing visitors. The greatest concentration of fabulous things lies in and around the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. In my studio building alone, the (Northrup King Building) there will be work by more than 200 artists to see.

I’ve got a ton of new work on display this year.  Stop by Ingrid Restemayer Studio -- Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE, studio 401-b -- enter from Van Buren Street for quickest access to my place. You’ll have to brave the 4 flights of stairs, but it’s worth it to start at the top and work your way down in this massive building.

Now on View: An Online Exhibit of New Work by Ingrid Restemayer

initiativeartwork.blogspot.com
The Initiative Art online show includes numerous examples from Ingrid Restemayer’s large scroll series recently created with funding from an Artist Initiative Grant by the Minnesota State Arts Board. The show features works with images of animals used as pseudo-illustrations paired with a surface covered in fields of French knots. The work is indicative of her mixed media/fiber work which incorporates traditional embroidery techniques, dyed papers and hand-pulled intaglio prints combined through collage.

Also included in the online exhibit are many of the source etchings. These intimate animal snapshots are etched by hand on discarded plastic gift cards. The etching is then processed and hand pulled like a traditional intaglio, but with much smaller editions.

For further information about the work, purchases or studio visits, feel free to call or email Ingrid at:

First Thurs. March 7 - New Work Debut!

I know I keep posting about First Thursday. But they keep happening! Every month!

Here we are again, with another First Thursday in the Arts District a little more than a week away.
Q: What’s so special about this one? A: New work debut!

A few months ago I posted a note about receiving an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. With the resources that grant provided, I’ve been able to create some new work that I’m really excited about. I’ve done a ton of new etchings. And, in typical fashion I’ve been working the images into larger paper & stitched collage pieces – lots of color, lots and lots of French knots. I’ll be previewing some of my favorites from this new body of work at First Thursday on March 7th, 5-9pm. Some more details about First Thursday below…

First Thursday Open Studio Crawl is a free monthly exploration of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District, centralized in the Northrup King Building. During the long history of the building and its hundreds of studios it has served as a haven of creativity and the place to find many famous artists at work. The Art Crawl is an event to help local artists offer their wares and interact directly with the public.
And oh yeah, there’s free parking.

Ingrid Restemayer Studio is studio 401-b, in the Northrup King Building,
