First Thursday in the Arts District continues on Thursday, August 6th, 5-9pm

On Thursday, August 6th, guest artist, Layl McDill will be doing polymer clay technique demonstrations throughout the evening.
Layl’s polymer clay sculptures and millefiore canes (called “Silly Millies”) are well known by the polymer clay community. Her work has been featured several times in PolymerCAFE’ magazine, and sculptures have been in several books about polymer clay. Her whimsical creations can be seen at galleries and consignment shops around the country.
Come see Layl’s work along side some new found object pieces I’m showing.

Through the North Dakota Museum of Art's Rural Arts Initiative, "Animals: Them and Us" is touring North Dakota. The exhibition just closed in Ashley, ND, where 300 students and community members saw it. Currently, the exhibition is on display at the Chahinkapa Zoo in Wahpeton, ND. The exhibition will be up until May 31. This is a multi-media exhibition by over 20 regional, national and international artists. My contribution to this traveling exhibition is this quirky little chicken (pictured) titled, "Scaredycat".

Art-A-Whirl -- THIS Weekend!

Friday, May 15th, 5-10pm
Saturday, May 16th, Noon-8pm
Sunday, May 17th, Noon-5pm

This is the big one, folks. Art-A-Whirl is the eagerly anticipated annual NE Mpls. open studio and gallery tour – and it’s coming up quickly!
This event is where over 400 artists exhibit their wares and basically, the whole of Northeast opens its doors for you. Nearly all of the artists that work here open their studios, the galleries have extended hours and special shows, restaurants and bars have specials for art-viewing visitors, and there’s even a trolley available to take you around from place to place. The greatest concentration of fabulous things lies in and around the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. In my studio building alone, the (Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE) there will be work by more than 150 artists to see.
My featured guest artist, Dan Buettner is showing his irresistible ‘object’ paintings in my studio this year. These works of incredible drawing and painting skill feature everything from orange slices to turtles to toy robots. Paired with Dan’s work are my own found object pieces. Here you’ll find drink umbrellas, keys and board game pieces assembled into stitched settings. The rest of the studio is filled with my new mixed media print/fiber work as well as Dan’s latest small study collages.

Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson St. NE, studio 401-b -- enter from Van Buren Street for quickest access to my place. You’ll have to brave the 4 flights of stairs, but it’s worth it to start at the top and work your way down in this massive building.

Ingrid Restemayer Studio will be open for its regular hours, 5-9pm this Thursday, May 7th. This particular “First Thursday” however, is a little extra special as it will be a preview of work to be shown at this year’s Art-A-Whirl.
Featured guest artist, Dan Buettner has already installed his irresistible ‘object’ paintings in studio.
First Thursday is a great time to get an up close and personal preview of the art before the masses descend for the BIG open studio tour later this month.

North Dakota Museum of Art Annual Auction, Feb. 7, 2009

Once again this year, I’m honored to have work included in the North Dakota Museum of Art’s Annual Benefit Dinner & Silent Auction. This year’s festivities take place on Saturday, February 7th. This organization is a wonderful and worthwhile art oasis in North Dakota and I’m happy to help support it. They do a fantastic job of bringing in contemporary art from all over the world and balancing that with showcasing important work from the region. Both veins exposing the community to notable art work they might not otherwise have access to. You can view the auction works at the museum now through Feb. 7th or visit http://www.ndmoa.com/ and click ‘events’.
North Dakota Museum of Art, 261 Centennial Drive, Grand Forks, ND 701-777-4195
p.s. A big thanks to auction curator, Matt Wallace for including my work in this show.
